Companion app can't be installed on iPhone for some users who have installed the watchOS only version app

Hello!

I'm facing the following Appstore issue.

There was an watchOS only app, without a companion app. In current 1.6 version the app has a companion app and it can be properly installed by new users from their iPhones or watches. Unfortunately, all old users, who have installed the app from their watches don't see a way to install the app from the Appstore (they can download the latest watchOS version though). Many things have been tried - uninstalling, installing on the watch. Looking for a purchase, removing subscription, but without luck. The Appstore shows "purchased" button instead "Get" or the cloud icon.

Is this a bug in the Appstore or there is a way to recover from this edge case.

Thanks, Emil

@eatanasov Did you ever find a solution? I've run into the same isssue. Thanks!

Same issue here. We used to have an Apple Watch only app, and now we released the companion app and our existing users can't download the iPhone app :(

Has anyone found a solution for this?

@eatanasov How did you fix the problem?

There is a solution to the problem, but the app user needs to initiate it themselves:

  1. App Store > Account > Sign Out
  2. Search for the relevant app in the App Store and tap the now visible “Get” button.
  3. Sign back in with your Apple account when prompted.
  4. Download the app.
