Upvoting own post dilemma.

Users can upvote their own posts, yet they don't by default upon posting them. Reddit, for comparison, continues to allow users to remove their own-post upvotes, but upvotes them for the user by default. Other forums like Stack Overflow disallow own-post upvoting.

This forum has the worst of both worlds, for users can gain an algorithmic advantage by upvoting their own. It might seem like a minor issue, because it is. But it's an issue in my eyes regardless.

@DTS Engineer, I've posted it at https://feedbackassistant.apple.com/feedback/14937243. However, immediately after doing so, I noticed that the GUI of this forum is conspicuously similar to that of Discourse.

Consequently, I expect that this domain is actually a modified version of Discourse, and that this would be better reported upstream. Though, of course, because this instance includes downvotes - which most instances don't - this might irrespective be another useful customisation.

I don’t really have an opinion on this because, speaking personally, I don’t care much about upvotes. Clearly you do (-: so I recommend that you create a bug report that describes the issue as you see it and how you’d like things to change.

Please post your bug number, just for the record.

I think it's not about preference or ego, but how it affects the discoverability algorithm. Apple should follow SO or reddit as the OP suggests; probably SO approach, IMO, but either is better.

Also unrelated but if I have your attention, I am noticing for some threads I am unable to boost or upvote any post, is this a bug or intended behavior?

Regarding both of your issues, it really doesn’t matter if these things are bugs or intended. If you want to seem something change, your best option is to file a bug about it, including your rationale for why you think that change is justified.
